At the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, dancers and musicians were united by a single thing: a love of great music.

When the band was swingin’ and the floor was hopping, nothing mattered but moving to the beat. Men and women, black and white, all danced together and gave shape to the music.

Here in Red Deer, the Red Aces are driven by that same love of music and connection. You don’t need a partner to come dance with us; whether you’re a man or a woman, you’ll find enthusiastic partners eager to take a turn with you on the dance floor. And whatever your gender, you’re welcome to lead or follow (or, in many cases, both).

We’re drawn to swing dancing in particular because of its culture and its playfulness. Swing has always been a counter-culture, a space where social limitations can be left at the door. And it’s innovative. The structure of the dance lets everyone express craft and individuality while sharing the music with a partner.

Music and dance open the door to connections and community we would never find off the social dance floor. As a not-for-profit company, we are dedicated to connecting people through music, dance and the arts. We believe investing even a small part of our time, energy and money in artistic jams creates positivity and laughter, curiosity and resilience.
